It’s been a year since race riots unsettled parts of the UK -a stark reminder that even in a diverse society, fear and hatred still exist. For many communities, the ripples of those events are still being felt.
And just yesterday, we learnt about another devastating act: the horrific Antisemitic attack on a synagogue in Manchester killing two congregants on Yom Kippur. This tragedy underscores that racism and intolerance are not just isolated issues - they are threats to us all, whatever our race and religion.
This Black History Month, we’re focussed on the small changes we can all make to build a better society: listening, understanding, and walking with compassion with those whose voices need to be heard.
At Paradisefold, we believe that fashion, at its best, is about more than aesthetics. It’s about identity, expression, and connection. It’s about breaking barriers rather than reinforcing them. That’s why we’re proud to shine a light on voices working to shift the culture from within.
One such voice is Flourish in Diversity,a charity working with economically disadvantaged and racialised youth in fashion. Fashion is massively behind the curve on diversity. Their co-founders, Nishy and Amelia, spoke with us about ambition, teamwork, and the urgent need for inclusivity in an industry that has too often lagged behind. Their mission is a reminder that while change may not come overnight, it grows stronger each time we choose empathy over apathy.
Flourish in Diversity is also supporting The Sameer Project, raising funds to provide vital humanitarian support to Palestinians on the ground in Gaza. They’re currently collecting donations of clothing, accessories, shoes and more to resell through our Vinted pop-up - with 100% of proceeds going directly to the cause. More information available here.
This Black History Month, we’re reminded that making a difference isn’t about rushing ahead - it’s about walking together, with compassion, and in step with those whose voices must be heard.
