Looking back to move forward 💚
Four years ago in January, one of my best friends, Debra, and I started planning the launch of a new brand that helps women flourish individually and in our communities. We wished to focus on practical and beautiful under-represented tools, especially the humble silk hair wrap.
Amazingly, Paradisefold is already four years old, and it’s been a whirlwind! We launched a new range, launched a growing diffusion range with Boots, grew our retail partnerships, and sold out repeatedly of our most popular Folds. (Thank you for making this happen!) But by far the greatest privilege has been getting to know the many wonderful women in our community.
You’re an inspirational, caring group of high-achieving, supportive and diverse women. Many of you have also been personally kind and supportive of me and our team: every conversation, DM, email and review has affected how we develop as a brand (yes, even the negative ones!!). I cannot thank you enough.
It's never been enough for me to build a fashion business without looking at the impact we have on our planet and community. We believe in being a positive force in our community, and that’s why this year, we:
- Measured and captured over twice our carbon emissions. You can read more about our environmental sustainability work, here;Â
- Donated stock to support a fundraiser for Flourish in Diversity, a charity dedicated to helping underprivileged groups pursue careers in fashion and sponsored an industry fundraiser for the charity, Look Good Feel Better, a cancer support charity helping people face cancer with confidence; and
- Supported Wellbeing of Women, the only UK charity dedicated to funding research and education on all women’s reproductive and gynaecological health, including menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.
So, where do we go from here?Â
First, making a difference to others in 2026 💚
As we enter 2026 our world is facing significant challenges. As some of you may know, before launching Paradisefold, I worked for over a decade in conflict, stabilisation and international development. The cognitive dissonance ofrunning a business in the middle of global conflict, in Sudan, Palestine and Ukraine, amongst many others has been painful. From my conversations with many in our community, I know this period has also been incredibly hard for many of you too. 💚
I believe in the power of individuals and organisations to make a positive difference. As a small brand, I know our reach is limited, but I would like us at Paradisefold to be part of the solution, even if in a tiny way. So, in 2026, we’ll focus more on working with charities helping women affected by conflict overseas, and redoubling our support to charities helping women gain economic independence at home. I also know that we’ll only be successful with your support: our brand is about so much more than fashion and beauty – it’s ultimately about you and the community we create together.
Second, supporting personal growth and potential 💪
We can't make a difference to others if we're not looking after ourselves.Â
Having first started this brand alongside a corporate role, I know how challenging it is to pursue a passion alongside a professional career. In the last couple of months, I also started studying for a Master's (part time!) in philosophy (specifically, ethics), marking an even bigger shift in my career! And if there are ways I can help make sure that Paradisefold helps you gain the curiosity and confidence to chart new paths, I'd love to make it happen!
That's why, in the first half of the year, we're going to focus on efforts on making changes in our lives that support our personal flourishing. I hope these stories inspire and empower you to make the small and big changes in your lives to grow and flourish.
