“Laughter makes the chaos feel a little lighter...”

This month, we sat down with Irish-Algerian comedian and writer Roanne - and she reminded us of something we all tend to forget when December chaos takes over: laughter is a lifeline.

Roanne grew up in a home where comedy and chaos were part of the family. With a mother who could turn any moment into a story, her beautifully dramatic Algerian–Irish roots, and a father whose tantric-masseur past ended up becoming the title of her own comedy show, humour wasn’t an escape, it was routine.

And she’s carried that instinct into her work today - lighting up rooms filled with people whose real lives hold heavy, complicated stories. She finds joy in the cracks. She builds connection in the quiet. She reminds us that even when life is full… we can still make space for light.

That’s the magic of humour at Christmas. It doesn’t erase the stress or the “wow… this year really asked a lot of me” moments. But it does lessen the weight we carry. In dark times, it can let in some air in for us to breathe - and just enough light in for us to feel hopeful again.

As Roanne told us, the best laughs come from blending comedy with the messy, human parts of who we are. And honestly… is there anything messier than Christmas? The expectations, the family dynamics, the last-minute everything - it’s a season that practically begs for a sense of humour so we can continue to flourish individually and in our relationships.

So this Christmas, we wish you a wonderful holiday and all the joy and laughter you can possibly carry into the New Year.

Lots of love,

Paradisefold xx
